See Naples and then die…….

I have always been a curious traveler to experience the raw and deep atmosphere of any new destination. As soon as I heard that our cruise ship would be docking in the city of Naples I was thrilled to bits.

From the Naples port where we came alongside you cannot help but notice a great number of ferry boats and luxury yachts sitting neatly before a row of high rise buildings at the ports entrance. These boats waiting to depart to Capri, Amalfi Coast and Pompeii to mention only a few of the treasures near Naples. I have heard that this ancient city has struggled with a bad reputation in recent years, a high crime rate and uncollected garbage among its problems. But with so many positive stories as well I am so excited to check it out.

From the 9th deck of the msOosterdam you can clearly see that the heart of the city is not far away. The day that I was there and already in the early morning a scorcher my plan was not too much walking. I opted for the fun and easy “hop on hop off” red London double decker buses. They offer you two routes, the red city run and the blue coast run. I started with the red, which took us along the cities main attractions. Passing for example the magnificent Duomo, the Cathedral of Naples. Then on to Universities, Museos Nationalle all Piazzas, it’s all lovely! At one point the bus is high above the city and the view below is amazing. You can see all along the route numerous charming backstreets all enjoying the hustle and bustle of city life, full of colour and energy.

It is almost time for lunch, and in Naples that means one thing, Pizza Margherita. There are so many famous addresses to visit, for example the family run Starita on Materdei, a favourite of Sophia Loren. And LÁntica Pizzeria da Michele where Julia Roberts ate her one in EatPrayLove. But in this city the Pizza Margherita are all good and I found mine, at Il Pomodorino near the port.

Pizza was invented in Naples, and they make the best. The Margherita simply being, a good base, not too thin and not too thick, San Marzano tomatoes, mozzarella thinly sliced, a few basilicum leaves and a little grated parmigiano with extra virgin oil.

Belief says that in June 1889 the pizzaiolo Raffaele Esposito, invented a dish called “Pizza Margherita”in honor of the Queen of Italy, Margherita of Savoy, and the Italian unification, since toppings are tomato (red), mozzarella (white) and basil (green), representing the same colors of the national flag of Italy.

Is getting even warmer so what  is better than a sea bath on a hot summer day? Let us find a path to the beach” we are taking the blue run  from our  hop on hop  off down to  the big cliff of Marechiaro. It is a long cliff where you can stay with your own towel or rent a crib from the stands on the area. Having some drinks in one of the most beautiful fish restaurant on the cliff looking out of the window on the fishermen’s boats can not be any more pleasurable and romantic.

After a day in Naples I am only wishing I could have  stay here longer but I will be back for sure.  Naples is becoming the art and fashion world’s new travel destination. The contrast between light and dark, grit and glamour has its most  charms that’s Naples.

To looking cool and still fashionable as the Italians do I opt for a good straw hat and strong sunglasses to protect eyes from the strong sun.

Some light dress in bright color and comfy sandals do work very well. My Hat is from Ruslan Baginskiy and it has been my companionship this summer everywhere. My sandals are from Ancient Greek the best investment I have ever made as they are cute and goes about with any summer outfit but are extremely comfortable in hot summer months. I love bright colors that’s way I am wearing my J Crew “Marrakesh” dress in hot south European cities.  My Sunglasses are from Fendi.

I have selected several options of hats which I will choose below, my dress is not longer available but J Crew offers similar this brand is becoming my go to option for cute, classic simple basics. They made the basic  and you styled you own way, isn’t summer fashion just so easy breeze fun.

Thank you for visiting, hope you have enjoyed Gabriela.
