It’s that time of the year when spring is here in the Bollenstreek, the Bulb Region. The landscape is transformed into a colorful patchwork, one week there are hyacinth blooming and daffodils and tulips the next. This is Holland’s Bulb Region. The Bollenstreek is the area between Leiden, The Hague and Haarlem, with the cities of Lisse, Hillegom, Katwijk, Noordwijk, Noordwijkerhout and Teylingen. In Lisse we have the beautiful Keukenhof and should you be here in the spring you really ought to visit, pleasure guaranteed! But if you choose not to and just take your bike and cycle around the mentioned cities you will become short of breath from the overwhelming smell and beauty. But don’t worry there are no hills so cycling is easy.
I am very lucky to be living in this area, Noordwijk. Wherever I look there are flowers fields, going to the supermarket, coming from work, walking my dogs. And it doesn’t surprise me that so many people are coming here to enjoy what can be seen and enjoyed. We all like to stand nicely between the rows of flowers, but please always respect the fields and never tread on the bulbs. Did you know that these tulips fields where most of the photos are made are not to produce the flowers for sale but to produce the bulbs .
So a nice reminder to all those who intend to visit, show a great deal of respect when making your photos. Do not upset the grower, all the beauty that you see is a result of his or her hard work.
